What it does
Pick a tag, type your text and the tool builds a flat, printable tag with the lettering on it. Pet tags come in round, bone, heart and rectangle shapes at 25, 30, 35 and 40 mm, with a ring hole in four sizes. Luggage tags come in two sizes with a strap slot at one end. It runs live in your browser and nothing is uploaded to design a part. Designing is free; we print the finished tag and courier it anywhere in New Zealand.
How much text fits
Tags are small and the nozzle is not. The tool sets the text as large as the tag allows and holds to a floor of about 3 mm for a capital and 0.5 mm for the thinnest stroke, which a 0.2 mm nozzle can lay down cleanly. If your wording will not fit above that floor, the tool tells you and builds nothing. A short name fits on every shape from 30 mm up. Adding a phone number needs a bigger tag: it fits on a 40 mm round or rectangle tag, and the heart and bone shapes are better kept to a name. Luggage tags have room for three lines.
Fonts, colours and finish
Four heavy open-source fonts are offered, chosen because none has a hairline stroke: Barlow Bold, Nunito ExtraBold, Roboto Slab Bold and Fredoka SemiBold. The text can be raised in the same colour as the tag, which is the cheapest way to print it, raised in a second colour, or set flush with the surface in a second colour. A second colour adds to the price, and you choose both colours in the quote form. The finer 0.2 mm detail setting also adds to the price, and is chosen for you when you press the quote button.
Rings and straps
A split ring, strap, cable tie or cord goes through the hole or slot and is not included. A pet tag from this tool is a decorative ID tag. It is a flat plastic disc and makes no claim to be a safety or breakaway device.
