Free sign maker for door signs, name plates & arrow signs
Free sign maker: door signs, desk name plates and arrow signs with your own text in easy-to-print fonts, raised or in two colours. Order it printed in NZ.
What it does
Type your wording, choose a sign, and the tool builds a printable plate with the text on it. Three signs are offered: a flat door sign or plaque, a free-standing desk name plate with a sloped face, and an arrow sign that points either way. It runs live in your browser and nothing is uploaded to design a part. Designing is free; we print the finished sign and courier it anywhere in New Zealand.
Text that prints properly
Raised lettering is limited by the nozzle, not the font. These signs are set for a 0.2 mm nozzle, which lays down finer strokes than the usual 0.4 mm, and the tool holds to a floor of 0.5 mm for the thinnest stroke and a minimum letter height of about 3 mm. If your wording would have to be set smaller than that to fit, the tool says so and builds nothing, rather than handing you a sign whose letters smear. Shorten the text, use fewer lines, or pick a bigger sign.
Up to three lines are sized together to fill the sign. A small line builds with a warning when it is close to the limit of fine detail.
Four easy-to-print fonts
Barlow Bold is a clear, heavy sans and the best all-rounder for signs. Nunito ExtraBold is a rounded sans that looks friendlier. Roboto Slab Bold is a sturdy slab serif with serifs thick enough to survive printing. Fredoka SemiBold is soft and chunky. All four are open-source fonts with no hairline strokes, and te reo Maori macrons are included.
Fixing it up
Door signs and arrow signs come with two counterbored screw holes for No.6 screws (not included), with the head sitting below the face, or with a flat back for double-sided foam tape and no holes. The desk name plate is a wedge with a flat bottom that stands on its own, so it has nothing to fix.
One colour or two
The cheapest way to print is raised text in the same colour as the plate. For a two-colour sign you can have the text raised in a second colour, or set flush with the surface in a second colour (flat signs only). A second colour adds to the price, and you choose both colours in the quote form. The finer 0.2 mm detail setting also adds to the price, and is chosen for you when you press the quote button.
