What It Does

Three of the most-printed small parts in the world, in one tool, all sized to your own measurements rather than someone else's. Wall Hooks

The J-hook can be mounted three ways. A keyhole slot drops over a screw head already in the wall, which is the neatest option and the easiest to remove. A plain screw hole is the strongest, especially into a stud or a plug. An adhesive pad face gives a flat unbroken back for double-sided tape or a command strip, and is the only option on tile or glass. Size the hook opening to the strap or handle it carries, not to the object's weight, and keep the throat depth generous so a loaded strap cannot walk off the tip.

Cable Clips

The snap-on C-clip is sized from the outer diameter of the cable. Measure the cable rather than trusting the label, because a 6 mm figure-of-eight cable and a 6 mm round cable behave very differently in a round clip. The clip opening flexes to let the cable in and closes behind it, so the material choice matters more than the geometry: printed in PETG the clip snaps and holds, printed in PLA it is more likely to crack on the third or fourth cable change, and printed in TPU it stretches over almost anything but grips only lightly.

Panel Grommets

Grommets do two jobs: they stop a sharp panel edge chafing through cable insulation, and they tidy the hole. The snap-in lip means the grommet clicks into the panel and stays there without adhesive, so the important number is your panel thickness, measured with calipers on the actual sheet. The second number is the hole diameter: a printed grommet wants a hole within a couple of tenths of nominal, so drill or punch it rather than filing it out by eye. Print grommets in PETG for a lip that snaps rather than snaps off, or TPU where the cable moves and needs genuine strain relief.

Extrusion Width and Wall Thickness

Both settings exist because on parts this small, wall thickness is a strength dial rather than a cosmetic one. Set the wall to a whole multiple of your nozzle width so the slicer packs it with complete extrusions: 1.2 mm from a 0.4 mm nozzle is three solid passes and the practical minimum for a hook that carries anything. Thin walls on a snap feature are not a way to make it springier, they are a way to make it break. A live readout shows volume, estimated mass per material and the facet count of the generated mesh.

Print Orientation and Strength

This is the single thing that decides whether a printed hook holds or snaps. Print the hook lying on its back, flat on the plate, so the layers run along the direction of bending and the load is carried within the extrusions. Print the same hook standing upright and the load tries to peel one layer off the next at the root, which is the weakest thing an FDM part does, and it will fail at a fraction of the load. Clips and grommets are less fussy, but a clip printed with the opening in the Z direction will always be springier and stronger than one printed on its side.

Materials and Honest Load Limits

PETG is the default for all three parts: it flexes without cracking, it does not creep much, and it shrugs off a warm room. PLA is stiffer and prints more crisply, so it is fine for a light indoor hook holding a tea towel or a lanyard, but it creeps under a constant load and will sag over months. TPU is the specialist choice for clips and grommets that need to stretch or damp vibration. Nylon PA12 and PAHT-CF are the option for workshop and vehicle use, where heat and repeated flexing kill everything else. Treat every printed hook as a light-duty part: for anything heavy, or anything above head height, use a steel fixing.
